Exciting news to share!
An idea born in 2023 led to support to make a short film in 2024; in February 2025 it will be seen for the first time by our Basis learners, many of whom were cast as extras and who learned about the art of filmmaking in the process.
The film is based on a true story from Basis’ founder Thomas Saverimuthu’s childhood.
The story, in a nutshell?
10 year old Thomas faces adversity at home and ridicule in the marketplace in 1970s India, but through sheer determination and resourcefulness, he channels his creative spirit to build a projector, showing that the power of imagination can overcome any obstacle.
Our hope is that Basis learners - and ultimately a wider audience - will be inspired to overcome any obstacles, including those imposed by poverty or society, to reach for their dreams!
