Build Dreams, Change Lives in 2025!

James Ambat, Founder of Basis' partner Family Development Services, presents Nireekshana with a Certificate of Achievement

Nireekshana, 23, married one year ago and now lives with her husband and her mother in a tiny two room home - one up, one down - in the Chinnapa Garden slum, just a few minutes walk away from our Freesia Bloom Digital Skills for Life Centre. Since graduating from digital literacy program, Nireekshana has gotten a job in marketing! She earns two thousand rupees more a month than she earned before participating in our program, and she now has benefits too. After two months she will receive a pay increase. Nireekshana uses the Microsoft Excel skills she acquired to manage inventory, and she puts together quotations for companies.

Before Bloom, Nireekshana only knew how to turn a computer on, she did not know how to use it. Her English was also almost non-existent, but since coming to Bloom and working on Spoken English, she can now speak English with confidence.

Although Nireekshana's family home is tiny, she is so very happy to be there! It was built by her father before he died in 2007. For some years she, with her two sisters and mother, were forced to live with a few uncles who, she says, "were ruling us." The house her father built was leased out. Now that they have it back, she says, "this is the happiest thing."

Now, together with her husband and her mother, Nireekshana enjoys freedom and financial independence. She hopes to have children when she is ready.

Before 2024 ends, would you consider a financial gift to help more women like Nireekshana?
